Fried Apples

4 firm apples
¼ cup water
1/3 cup butter
1/3 cup packed light-brown sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Wash the apples well with cold water.

Insert an apple corer into the center of each apple and twist it to cut around the core.  Remove the cores from all the apples.

Knife goes in...

...guts come out!

Slice the apples into 1/2-inch rings.

Careful not to slice 'em TOO thin - they'll turn into mush when they're fried.

Measure the water and butter into a skillet.  Warm them over medium heat until the butter melts.

Add the apple slices to the skillet.  Cook them for about 10 minutes.  Turn them once or twice with a spatula while they cook.

Butter is good for you. Right? And more butter is even more good for you?

Sprinkle the brown sugar and lemon juice over the slices.  Gently turn all the slices to mix.

This is where it starts to taste like a blend of apple pie and caramel apples.

Cover the skillet and remove it from the heat.  Let the apples sit for 10 minutes, and serve.

And you don't even have to make a crust. :)

4-6 servings.

Served warm with scrambled eggs: Breakfast for dinner!

My Rating: 4/5 "Kind of like apple pie without a crust. Tasty at the time, but they don't keep super well so you have to gobble them up fast!"
