Salisbury Steak

Boulevard’s Favorite Recipes 2004-2005, p. 45

6 tablespoons (1 ½ ounces) dried fine bread crumbs
8 ounces ground turkey or beef
1 egg
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
½ cup chopped onion
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
3 tablespoons ketchup
1 (10 ¾-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a medium bowl, combine bread crumbs, meat, egg, black pepper, and onion.

Combine?

I got about this far with the spoon, but I had to use my hands to really get everything together.

Form into 4 patties. Place in a hot skillet sprayed with butter-flavored cooking spray. Brown patties on both sides.

It's like you're making four mini meat loaves. And then squooshing them.

Place browned patties in an 8-by-8-inch baking dish. In a small bowl, combine Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and mushroom soup. Pour over patties.

This sauce is actually quite tangy and flavorful - I was impressed.

Bake 30 minutes.

Somehow it comes out looking pretty fierce.

Served up with some broccoli and a great episode of The League!

My Rating: 4/5 "I was pleasantly surprised by this. I hated Salisbury Steak Day in elementary school, and I expected this to be equally nightmarish. But it was really nice! The sauce is a great accent to the flavors of the meat patties, and it all comes together in a very comforting texture."
