Mulled Wine

½ cup sugar
1 ½ cups boiling water
Half a lemon, sliced thin
3 cinnamon sticks
3 whole cloves
1 bottle red dinner wine (burgundy or claret)

This was the only kind of burgundy or claret available in the Fresh Market wine section. I'm afraid I may have indirectly helped fund the next Nicholas Cage movie.

Dissolve sugar in boiling water in saucepan.

Add remaining ingredients.

A lemon is always a thing of beauty.

It continues to look much like this, both in the slow cooker and in the mug.

Pour into slow cooker. Heat on low for at least 1 hour, until wine is hot. Do not boil.

Serve from cooker into mugs.

My Rating: 4/5 "Great stuff. It's mellow and tasty even for people who don't like wine, and it's a great excuse to cozy up and drink something warm during the winter. Make it for a party, or make it just for yourself!"
