Tomato Steak

Meals Tested, Tasted, and Approved, p. 80

3 tablespoons fat

2 ½ lb. round steak 2” thick

1 large onion

3 carrots

2 white turnips

2 cupfuls canned tomatoes

2 teaspoonfuls salt

1/8 teaspoonful pepper

We really don't appreciate turnips enough.

Heat fat in a frying pan, add meat and sear it brown on all sides. Then arrange in a casserole and cover with onion, carrots, and turnips which have been peeled and chopped very fine, tomatoes, salt and pepper.

There's so many onions in this that once you pile them on you'll be asking, literally, where's the beef?

I wasn't quite sure which kind of canned tomatoes to use so I went with crushed.

Cover tightly and bake in a slow oven of 275 F. for 3 hours. The gravy may be thickened if desired.

Served with sauerkraut, that most reliable of Keto side dishes.

My Rating: 3/5 "For all the prep work it takes this is a pretty run-of-the-mill dish. The veggies aren't all that interesting. Even after baking for three hours the meat is still kind of tough. There's just... not much pizzazz."
