Hasperat

The Geeky Chef Cookbook, p. 85

2 large tortillas

½ cup or 4 ounces (115 g) cream cheese

Hot sauce (to taste)

½ cup or 2 ounces (55g) shredded Monterey Jack cheese

¼ avocado, peeled, destoned, and thinly sliced

½ red onion, chopped

½ cup (70g) hot pickled vegetables, chopped

¼ cup (15g) spinach or arugula leaves

These were really tasty both in the recipe and by themselves.

I'm not a fan of red onion most of the time, but it worked really well with the other ingredients.

Zap (or phaser) your tortillas in the microwave on high covered with a damp piece of paper towel for a few seconds so they are pliable.

In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese with the desired amount of hot sauce. Spread this mixture on your tortillas, making sure to completely cover them—this is what’s going to hold the wrap together.

Layer the cheese on top, then top with the avocado, onion, spinach or arugula, and hot pickled vegetables.

Roll up the tortillas tightly and tuck in the ends. If you wish, you can lightly grill them on each side for a few minutes.

Of course I grilled them! We can't have limp Hasperat, now can we?

Cut each wrap in half diagonally and serve.

Served with tater tots, which unfortunately did not tie into the Space Opera vibe.

My Rating: 4/5 "In case you're not familiar, this is a food from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine that's eaten by the Bajorans. The author of this cookbook, who really knows what they're doing, imagined this wrap based on the vague descriptions of hasperat mentioned throughout the series. It's a refreshing little wrap with ingredients designed to pique your palate and then give it a nice punch of heat. The cream cheese is a great anchor. Props to the Chef for coming up with this!"
