Larry’s Cherry Chocolate Kiss Smoothie

 Orange is the New Black: The Cookbook, p. 108

½ cup (70 g) pitted fresh or frozen sweet cherries

1 frozen sliced banana

¾ cup (180 ml) diary milk or unsweetened almond or soy milk, plus more as needed

¼ cup (60 ml) pure cherry juice, plus more as needed

3 tablespoons cacao powder

¼ teaspoon almond extract

Pinch of salt

1 teaspoon cacao nibs (optional)

In a blender, combine all the ingredients except the cacao nibs and blend until smooth; add a little more milk or cherry juice if the smoothie is too thick. 

I wanted to make two smoothies so I decided to do it in a bowl with an immersion blender so I could make them both at once. It ended up being messy and weird and I don't recommend doing it.


Pour into a glass, top with the cacao nibs, if using, and serve.

I couldn't find nibs, but mini chocolate chips did the trick.


My Rating: 5/5 "The whole is definitely greater than the sum of its parts with this. Not to sweet, not too tart, and delightfully chocolatey. Possibly my favorite smoothie now."
