Apple Crisp

Santa’s Recipes for a Great Christmas 5th Edition, p. 19

4 medium tart cooking apples (Greening, Rome, Granny Smith), sliced (4 cups)
¾ cup packed brown sugar
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
1/3 cup butter or stick margarine, softened
¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¾ teaspoon ground nutmeg
Cream or ice cream, if desired

It didn't say to core the apples, but I thought it would be a nice touch to, you know, not eat apple cores.

And then it didn't really say how to slice them, so I just kind of... yeah.

Heat oven to 375F. Grease bottom and sides of square pan, 8 x 8 x 2 inches, with shortening.
Spread apples in pan. Mix remaining ingredients except cream; sprinkle over apples.

Autumn food. :)

It's actually easiest to mix this with your hands. (I promise.)

Do your best with this part. It's kinda wacky.

Bake about 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender when pierced with fork.

But it mostly evens out in the oven.

Serve warm with cream.

Silly recipe. Ice cream is always desired!

My Rating: 4/5 "I liked this approach to the "crisp" part - buttery and chewable. And Granny Smiths are my favorite apples, so I was a big fan of baking with them! When the ice cream starts melting onto the crisp and you eat big spoonfuls with everything mixed together... AW YEA."
