Santa’s
Recipes for a Great Christmas 5th Edition, p. 19
4
medium tart cooking apples (Greening, Rome, Granny Smith), sliced (4 cups)
¾ cup
packed brown sugar
½ cup
all-purpose flour
½ cup quick-cooking
or old-fashioned oats
1/3
cup butter or stick margarine, softened
¾
teaspoon ground cinnamon
¾
teaspoon ground nutmeg
Cream
or ice cream, if desired
It didn't say to core the apples, but I thought it would be a nice touch to, you know, not eat apple cores. |
And then it didn't really say how to slice them, so I just kind of... yeah. |
Heat oven to 375F. Grease bottom and sides of square pan, 8
x 8 x 2 inches, with shortening.
Spread apples in pan. Mix remaining ingredients except
cream; sprinkle over apples.
Autumn food. :) |
It's actually easiest to mix this with your hands. (I promise.) |
Do your best with this part. It's kinda wacky. |
Bake about 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and
apples are tender when pierced with fork.
But it mostly evens out in the oven. |
Serve warm with cream.
Silly recipe. Ice cream is always desired! |
My Rating: 4/5 "I liked this approach to the "crisp" part - buttery and chewable. And Granny Smiths are my favorite apples, so I was a big fan of baking with them! When the ice cream starts melting onto the crisp and you eat big spoonfuls with everything mixed together... AW YEA."
