Joys of Jell-O, p. 58
1
package (3 oz.) Jell-O Lemon-Lime or Lemon Gelatin
¾ cup
boiling water
1 can (8
oz.) tomato sauce
1 ½
tablespoons vinegar
½
teaspoon salt
Dash of
pepper
Dissolve Jell-O Gelatin in boiling water.
This recipe obviously takes a lot of culinary skill. |
Add remaining
ingredients. Pour into 8-inch square pan; chill until firm. Cut into cubes and
serve on salad greens.
Why yes, that IS what lemon Jell-o looks like when it's full of tomato sauce and seasonings! |
Here's what the (delightfully retro) cookbook said it was supposed to look like. |
And here's what mine looked like! |
My Rating: 2/5 "This is... weird. It does taste vaguely like lemony barbecue, but it has the consistency of a somewhat organic Jell-o jiggler. I'm not very experienced with aspics, which is what the cookbook says this is, but boy howdy is this a heck of a crash course."
