chopped onion
2 cloves
garlic, minced

water
¼ tsp.
salt
¼ cup
tomato paste
1 tbs.
chili powder
1-1/2
tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp.
dried oregano leaves
10 soft
taco style flour tortillas
Assorted
toppings: Shredded lettuce, shredded Monterey Jack cheese, chopped tomatoes,
sliced ripe olives, sour cream and cilantro leaves
Cook beef, onion and garlic in large skillet over medium-high
heat until beef is browned, about 7 minutes.

Drain fat from skillet. Stir in
water, tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, oregano and salt. Cook over low heat,
stirring occasionally for 10 minutes.
It's like a thicker, more savory sloppy joe. |
Warm tortillas according to package
direction. For each taco, place ¼ cup beef mixture down center of each
tortilla. Top with your choice of assorted toppings. Fold in sides of tortilla
over filling.
Served as part of a taco bar for guests! |
My Rating: 4/5 "This is actually a nice complex flavor for taco meat, and it gets bonus points for calling for neither taco seasoning nor taco sauce. It's just straight-up food."
