Food for the Body for the Soul, p. 88
½ cup sugar
½ cup molasses
¾ cup shortening, melted and cooled
¼ cup milk
2 eggs
2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups quick oatmeal
1 cup seedless raisins
Mix the first five ingredients in the order given.
One of my eggs was one of those two-yolk ones! |
Add sifted dry ingredients, oatmeal and raisins. Mix well. Drop by teaspoon on greased cookie sheet, 1 inch apart.
They look almost exactly the same before and after baking. |
Bake in moderate oven (375F.) 8 to 10
minutes.
My Rating: 4/5 "I like where this is going. They're a rich cookie, but not a gooey-sweet one. My one major qualm was that there was too much cloves for comfort. Reduce that, maybe add some nutmeg or ginger, you're good to go!"
