1 lb lean ground beef
½ lb bulk Italian sausage
1 (15 oz) can pizza sauce
2 (12 oz) tubes refrigerated buttermilk
biscuits
1 (8 oz) can mushroom pieces and stems, drained
½ cup thinly sliced green bell pepper
2 cups (8 oz) shredded pizza blend cheese
Heat oven to 400F. Grease 13x9 inch baking dish. In large skillet, cook beef and sausage until browned; drain well.
I used some delicious vension sausage that was a gift from a hunter friend. (Excuse the freezer burn.) |
Stir in sauce. Cut biscuits into fourths with scissors; place in baking dish.
"Cobblestones," see? |
Top with meat mixture, mushrooms, and bell pepper.
Such veggies! |
Bake, uncovered, 25 minutes. Sprinkle with
cheese. Bake 5-10 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Let stand 5 minutes
before serving.
This makes a ton of casserole. |
My Rating: 4/5 "I should begin by pointing out that the two people I ate this with weren't as wild about it as I was. My excitement over it may have been in part because I'm not supposed to eat canned biscuits or ground beef so those ingredients were a taboo treat for me. But overall I dud really enjoy the meaty cheesiness on top of the sweetness of the biscuits."
