Chocolate Crumb Bars

Great Value

1 cup sweet cream butter

1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup granulated sugar

¼ tsp. salt

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a 13 x 9-inch backing pan. Beat butter in a large mixing  bowl until creamy. Beat in flour, sugar and salt until crumbly. Press 2 cups of the crumb mixture onto the bottom of the prepared baking pan; reserve the remaining mixture.

Great things come from humble beginnings.

Bake the crust for 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Combine sweetened condensed milk and 1 cup of the chocolate chips in a heavy small saucepan.

I can't really explain why, but there's something quite beautiful about chocolate chips.

Warm over low heat, stirring until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract. Spread over the hot crust. Stir in the nuts and remaining chocolate chips into the reserved crumb mixture; sprinkle over chocolate filling.. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until center is set. Cool in pan on a wire rack.

And look at how awesome they are in the final product!

My Rating: 4/5 "I took these to the end-of-year party at my kid's school and they went like gangbusters. They ended up completely gone - nobody did the Midwest thing where they refused to eat the last one in case someone else wanted it. The cookies have nice flavor and nice crunch, so they're well worth showing off!"
